The first official trailer for Earthblade, a new game by the developers of hit indie Celeste, just debuted at the Game Awards tonight. We wouldn't be surprised if you have high expectations for Earthblade, seeing as Celeste had won several awards after it was launched. Extremely OK also says you'll be piecing together Earth's fractured history as you play. The trailer shows you some of the obstacles you'll have to face and the foes you'll have to defeat while exploring the remnants of a ruined world. In Earthblade, you'll play Névoa, which the developer describes as an "enigmatic child of Fate" (with horns) who's returning to Earth. Travel the remnants of a ruined world, encounter denizens both friend and foe, and piece together the Earth's fractured history. Among other differences, the game will have a more open-world exploratory feel than some Metroidvanias. We still don’t know many concrete details about the story or gameplay. It's called Earthblade, and just like Celeste, it's a 2D exploration-action game set in a pixel world. People will call it a Metroidvania when it comes out, because the similarities are definitely there, but the Earthblade team resists calling it a Metroidvania because they don't want to get boxed in. Taking a similar pixel-art style as Celeste, Earthblade is a 2D action-adventure game that was first revealed in April 2021.
